We’re delighted to introduce a powerful enhancement to the Primo NDE UI: Natural Language Search. With this new capability, library users can now type search queries the way they think or speak—without needing advanced Boolean logic—and the system will interpret that language and deliver precise, relevant results.
Users can now enter a query phrased in everyday language, such as “Find me US history journals in English that are available online”. The system automatically translates it into a structured Boolean query in the background. Keywords such as “journal”, “in English”, “available online” are detected, and the appropriate filters (resource type, language, online-availability) are applied transparently.
- Leveraging AI capabilities: behind the scenes, the system uses a generative AI engine to identify elements such as resource types, date filters, language, title/subject fields, and then builds the Boolean-search equivalent.
- Easy activation/configuration: This feature is enabled on a per-View basis in the View Configuration
- Intuitive user experience: With Natural Language Search, users don’t have to know advanced search syntax. They can simply ask what they need.
- Modern interface readiness: As the Primo NDE UI shifts the discovery experience forward, this feature is a key step in aligning discovery workflows with how people naturally search for information.
- Competitive advantage: Libraries using Primo can now highlight a next-generation search experience to their patrons—and demonstrate innovation.
This enhancement aligns with our broader NDE UI roadmap—moving toward an even more intuitive discovery environment.
We hope you are as excited as we are about this next step in discovery excellence. With Natural Language Search now available in Primo NDE UI, your users can simply ask—and discover.
